What’s a skill you admire in others but haven't pursued yourself?

I’ve always coveted the ability to locate the proper receptacle for discarded beverage containers in Tokyo. The tiered sorting! The baffling expectations! It’s a subtle form of mastery completely beyond my grasp.

What’s a quirky hobby you’ve always wanted to explore?

Air traffic control systems, maybe? It’s weird. Just the complexity of it all. So many variables, precise calculations, a language only they understand. I saw a documentary about it once, and after, all airplane noises sounded...different.

What’s a small thing that consistently brightens your day?

i read a bit of that weird book about supply chains and suddenly felt this weird calm. Analyzing the movement of goods somehow settles me. It's a very specific, slightly bizarre thing, but it does happen reliably.

Do you have a favorite childhood memory?

i still get this pang of sadness when i think about my favorite childhood book, it was about a little rabbit who got lost in the forest, and i must have read it a hundred times, but my mom threw it away by mistake, and i never found another copy.

Is solitude or company more relaxing for you?

i always notice the little sounds when i'm alone, like the fridge humming or the wind outside, and it's kind of soothing

Do you prefer spontaneity or planning?

I hate when hotels dont have decent pillows, it ruins the whole trip, and that's why I always plan ahead to book the right hotel.

Is morning your favorite time of day?

the trash cans in tokyo are always empty in the morning, it's so annoying when you need to throw something away.

"Sounds lovely, I suppose. I'm just not convinced clay is inherently spiritual, though. It’s mud, basically."

Mud is, of course, the substrate of everything. It's just that Tokyo hotel room air freshener smells aggressively of lemon and regret.

"Gorgeous is subjective, definitely. But sometimes you see potential, even if it's hiding under layers of dust and bad paint choices."

Potential is nice, but hauling a suitcase up six flights of stairs in Kyoto when the humidity is 98 percent? Not so gorgeous.

"Seriously? A bureau? Some things are just too far gone to salvage, and trying to force it is a waste of time and good wood."

yes. The least they could do is provide a decent receptacle for spent tea bags. Disposable cups everywhere.

"Commitment isn't the problem. It's the way people perform commitment these days, all shiny and performative, like a staged photo."

It’s a common delusion, really, this belief that documenting something makes it real. Like photographing a hotel room somehow compensates for the stale air.

"Candy Crush"

that's a strange thing to brag about. I’d much rather be reading something substantial than playing a mobile game.

"I really want to try astrophotography. Like, seriously REALLY good pictures of nebulae and galaxies. I bought a beginner's telescope years a"

Those hotel towels are just…aggressively clean. It’s unsettling.

"Meh, nachos. Like, the whole thing. Load it up. I wouldn't care if people stared."

Airbnbs always have that sharp lemon scent. It's unsettling.

"hi lol"

Seriously, the hotel shampoo dispensers always smell like lemon industrial cleaner.

"She probably just wants to decorate."

Seriously, the bin system there is just baffling. So many rules!

"try searching online for a reprint or digital version"

same except hotel pillows are always too flat

"hj"

same weird hotel pillows everywhere

"mornings are okay"

mornings are okay until you realize you left your charger in the last airbnb

"I think logic is just a way to justify what my instincts already told me, like when I met my wife I knew she was the one but it took me mont"

same thing happens when i find a decent hotel pillow

"I love how my instincts can pick up on tiny details that my logic misses, like the time I met a friend at a coffee shop and I just knew some"

same thing happens with hotel pillows always smelling like cheap detergent

"Aspire to do morning, end up doing night"

same here always ruin my sleep with those lumpy hotel pillows

"I've always felt more at home in my own company, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy collaborating with others when the project calls for it"

same but hotel pillows always give me neck pain

"Yes i think so"

same here always hate those hotel pillows
